Dell Inspiron 6000 Install issues

Post by cdubea »

Hi all,

First time Mint user here. Had Ubuntu on this laptop but the harddrive died and I thought I would give Mint a try.

I downloaded 32 bit Mint 13 with mate and using unetbootin created a bootable Live Mint on a USB stick.

The laptop wouldn't fire up the standard type but would fire up in compatibility mode.

I installed Mint to the HD from the icon on the desktop and rebooted.

The HD light lit up a bit and then went dark with a dark screen. I let it sit there over an hour.

Toggling the power results in the following on boot up:

GNU GRUB

Linux Mint - .....
Linux Mint - ..... -- recovery mode
memory test (memtest8+)
memory test (memtest8+, serial console 115200)

Choosing recovery mode I get the Recovery Menu with the following options:

resume
clean
dpkg
fsck
grub
network
root
system-summary

What should be the next step?

thanks

chris
