Installing Mint With Linux Kernel 3.6.2

Post by chessmaster942 » Sun Oct 21, 2012 10:34 am

I need to install Linux Mint 13 x86_64 KDE in UEFI mode, and so far the only problem is that grub throws me the error "Grub Couldn't Install to /target/ System will not boot without bootloader..." or something very similar.

My solution is to use rEFInd boot manager, and I know how to install it from live usb. The only limitation is that I need to have linux kernel 3.3.0 or later for rEFInd to work.

How can I install a newer kernel image either during installation, or after the install, but without booting into my new install...

Ok, so I've been following this tutorial: http://www.osnews.com/story/8472, and I'm on step three:

tar -xvjf .bz2 -C /usr/src
cd /usr/src
rm linux
ln -s linux
cd linux

However I do "ln -s linux" and it works fine, but then "cd linux" says to many levels of symbolic links.

How do I fix this?
