How to speed up boot time in Mate 13?

Postby I do Mint » Sun Nov 11, 2012 6:15 pm

This question was in a reply on the Mate destop environment which was not correct so I open a new topic for it.
I upgraded from Mint 9 (Isadora) which was a perfect Mint version for me.
Due to upcoming end of support (April '13) I decided to upgrade to Mint 13 Mate.
I love the OS and I am very thankful with the developers but I really don't like the slow boot time.
XP boots fully in 25 seconds on this system, Mint 9 took aprox 30 seconds but Mint 13 takes 55 seconds! :(
Before it was 60 seconds but I disabled some program startups and set the swappiness to 10 instead of the default 60.
Still is 55 seconds a pretty long time to boot when I compare it with the 30 seconds from Mint 9.
There is a long delay before the icons apear on the desktop but the menu button takes the longest.
Does anybody have an idea what causes the slow boot time from Mint 13 Mate or how to speed up it's boot time?
Here are my specs:

Processor : AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+
Memory : 1025 MB
Operating System: Linux Mint 13 Maya
Resolution : 1280x1024 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : Gallium 0.4 on NV34
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
Audio Adapter : VIA8237 - VIA 8237

-SCSI Disks-
ATA MAXTOR STM325082 (Contains Mint 13 Mate and Grub)
Oh yes, I do Mint :)
