Hello everybody,

I just installed Linux Mint 14 Nadia mate 64 bit, as only operating system on the machine, no other partitions, encrypting the home folder.

When I put my username and password, I login successfully, and I hear the welcoming music that comes, but then the system logs me right out, and I am faced with the login screen again. Basically I can't login.

when I press Ctrl Alt F2, I am able to punch in my username and password, and I can login successfully, but so there is no problem with the username and password. Any ideas?

AMD quad core 2.7ghz
Gigabite ga-a75m-s2v
2x8gb ddr3 ram
Gigabite gv n610d3 1gi geforce

I seem to have solved it by installing the nvidia drivers from the command line

same problem with a kvm virtual machine.
i can log in using a gnome session but no way to login with cinnamon (3d and 2d sessions)

Same issue on fresh install of Linux Mint 14.

What was that command?

Sorry for the simple question:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

I was really trying to get a feel for the proper version number.

Sorry for ask but I'm a newbie, how you can try the command without login. I tried with Cinnamon and Mate and have the same situation on both. Thanks

sorry for the late reply: you press ctrl alt f2 and you will see a command line, you sign in with your password, install nvidia with the above command, and then you reboot with "sudo reboot"

Thanks, don't know if was specific that driver or another because I changed the session to GNOME Classic, was able to login, after update all drivers and reboot didn't have any problem. But thanks anyway, now I know for future situations.

I had the same issue with LM Cnamon 14. and 14.1 (Nvidia driver install fixed it) BUT I can't see te text in the username and password text fields it is way too small... Any ideas on how to resolve this?
