There is nothing inherently wrong with Mint/HP laptop combinations. Check out this link: http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... ur_Live_CD

Hello,

I loaded Mint on a HP dv6700 laptop. And I had a heck of time. I followed the directions from the link given you. I had to delete "quite splash---" and put "all_generic_ide" in order for it too boot. Then I had to boot in safe graphics mode. Once I got the live CD loaded I was able to install. I did have a few issues after the install.

Wifi, but found a fix to that here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-5007e ... tform.html

Envy: I could get the Nvidia driver to install but could not get it too update my X Config file. This is what I did to fix that:
As far as the resolution goes it sounds like you have may have the wrong module/driver installed. You can try to edit the xorg.conf file manually by booting into the recovery console and typing in: nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This will bring up the configuration file. Once open try to add the default resolution you would like to use. Save and exit. Type startx to launch x. If it won't load the correct resolution try another setting. Be sure you verify your using the right driver though, otherwise trying to make it work with the current one is pointless. Let me know if this helps.
This a reply from lakehousetech (Thanks again btw) to my post for help.

The last "issue" I had was with the headphone jacks. When I plugged in the headphones I get sound from both the laptop speaker AND the headphones. I have yet to find a fix for this problem. I have read on the Ubunutu forums where using the alsa driver XXXXXX.15, don't remember the other numbers just the last .15 be cause there newest is XXXX.16. But to be honest I forked it up when I tired to do that. LOL So not sure if it will work or not.

Best of luck,
James
