Mint 14 Mate 64 bits Integrity check fails!

Postby demian85 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:11 am

I can't believe there is no info on this. I tried Google of course but I cannot find a solution.

I made a bootable usb using the startup disk creator and when I select the integrity check option it gives me an error message "error found in 4 files". Ok so? What do I do now?
Can I install it anyway? will it crash in the middle?

Help please!

Do you still have the ISO file that you downloaded and from which you created the bootable USB? If so, and assuming you are currently on another Linux installation, check the MD5 of the ISO file. It's noted in the table here: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=118

To calculate the MD5 of the ISO file, open a terminal on the directory where you have the file and run (and replace linuxmint.iso with the name of your file):

Code: Select all

md5sum linuxmint.iso

If the numbers don't match, you have a corrupted download and should download the ISO anew. If the numbers do match, the download was fine. I'm not sure what Startup Disk Creator does, or if it modifies any files, but I'd recommend you just use dd to copy the ISO file to your USB stick: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744

Same here: md5 is fine and integrity check fails with "4 files not found".
I cannot install Linux mint because near the end of the installation I get "grub-install dummy failed".
Is there any way to track this and mark it as high priority?

billiejoex, from what did you install; DVD or USB? What program did you use to put the ISO on it? As this is a very uncommon problem, it sounds like either it may be a problem with the medium you are using or the program used for putting the ISO on it. Or possibly related to your hardware setup (do you have RAID, do you have UEFI, those kind of problem causing things).

I paste here what I have just published in the other thread:
Well, after checking a bit more, perhaps it's more correct to say that the "Integrity check" works but, because the iso images are specially made to be burnt into DVDs, when you run it on a Live USB you get 4 errors because it looks for 4 files inside the isolinux folder, when actually they are inside the syslinux directory.
I add here:
