[SOLVED]how to update GRUB after cloning?

Post by stimpe »

I recently got a new bigger hard drive, and cloned my mint 14 from old drive(60gb IDE) onto the new drive(1TB SATA) with no issue. the only problem is it doesnt boot, and im pretty sure i just have to update GRUB, but dont know how, as it is trying to boot from a UID and since its a new hard drive, it has a different UID.

what it says when trying to boot from new cloned drive:

Code: Select all

/dev/disk/by-uuid/9c81d460....... does not exist. dropping to a shell
also i think this is something close to what i have to do, but im unsure of the exact commands i should be using.

So, how can I fix my grub/make this boot?

Update: I had to boot up from my old drive, modify grub to not use UUID. re-cloned the drive. booted up from new cloned drive, and ran update-grub. works flawlessly
