I've been trying to install LM 14 on an older Gateway W430UA laptop, 32 bit, 1.6 GHz, 150 gb HDD, currently running Win Vista. It hasn't benn turned on for about 4 years. I start up, boot from CD/DVD and get to the "Reboot in # second..." screen. Then it goes black, flashes silver for a moment then alternates screen off and black screen for however long (I've waited up to 20 mins).
I tested the disk on another laptop I have, Toshiba Satellite A505, 64 bit, 2.77 GHz, 500 gb HDD, currently running Win8, but was previously running Win7 & Ubuntu 12 dually. Everything worked exactly how it should (I didn't go through completely with the install) and I got to the desktop screen where you can play around or install LM.
What could the issue be with the Gateway laptop that I would be getting this black screen?
Thanks.
Edit: I have the MATE 32 bit version on LM 14.

Re: LM 14 nstall issue, black screen.
Update: I decided to try a disk of Ubuntu 11.10 that I had, this produced the same issue. HOWEVER, when I touched certain keys on the keyboard I am able to hear the Ubuntu system sounds.
What could possibly be causing this issue with the screen not displaying?

Update 2: So I plugged the laptop into my TV with a VGA cable and I can see everything on the TV screen, but nothing on the laptop screen. Going through with install, but why would my computer screen not display anything?
