I just installed Linux Mint 13 MATE edition, and right off the bat I had problems. As soon as I went to install updates I got an error

Code: Select all

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I installed the updates anyway and rebooted. Upon rebooting I found that my wireless had ceased working. So I went to Additional Drivers to install the Broadcom driver. When I click activate a window pops up that starts shaking and generally just spazing out and tells me that I don't have permission to do that.

How can I fix this?

Did your wireless network work during the live DVD session? If so, it shouldn't be a driver problem. Try 'rfkill list' in a terminal, to see whether your WIFI is disabled.
