Linux Mint Blank Screen

Hi My linux Mint 14 is not working all of a sudden.
Booting to linux mint 14 is fine, it goes to login screen with username and password, after login the screen goes blank(black). i can see and move the mouse and that's it, nothing else is visible.

How do i do a recovery? please help. Thank you.

What video card is you machine using?

i had the same problem a few days ago. turns out my nvidia card was hittin 110c.

my fans failed so i took my old xbox360 apart and used the fans of there.
now all is working well @ 32 - 34

hello, sort of solved the issue. It turns out to be that when i login to linux mint 14 nadia the option screen is set to run 'active script' - not sure what is this option for. i changed it to 'gnome classic' and the login works fine no more blank screen. the only problem now is the cinnamon theme is gone!(missing) I'm stuck with an ugly interface. : (

glad you were able get it going. if you could give us a little info about the machine your running we may be able to help you get cinnamon running.

if Gnome 3 will run then Cinnamon should also.

i'm using a lenovo laptop with dual hybrid graphic card, 8gb ram, i5 quad core, dual boot with windows 7 and linux mint 14 nadia 64 bit. It was working fine before only recently i had this problem.

have you upgrade cinnamon since you installed?

hi, i did run this: apt-get update, apt-get upgrade.. not sure about anything else..

hello, solved it by running this commands :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon


hopefully this was the right thing to do......
