X Server Crash on Boot after LM update 14 -> 15

Hi,

So my Hp dv6 laptop is having X Server issues upon booting - it crashes every time. I speculate it has to do with the graphics drivers I have but I don't really know. I did have to update my drivers in 14 to solve an overheating issue when I first installed LM; but I definitely don't remember the details as that was quite awhile ago.

Attached is the return from inxi -Fxz:
(sorry, I'm on a different computer - and typing would take ages; if this is too taboo I guess I'll type it all out as I need help that badly :| )

In short (I have the logs attached for full gory details):
...
(EE) 11: /usr/bin/X (0x7fa11f9dd000+0x478c1) [0x7fa11fa248c1]
(EE)
(EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x70180

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting
...

That is the only error I'm aware of.

Things I have done to try to fix it:
[*] Edited GRUB boot parameters to include "nomodeset xforcevesa" (per Xenopeek's topic)
[*] Purged old xorg drivers

Code: Select all

    $ sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
    $ sudo reboot
    $ sudo apt-get update
    $ sudo apt-get install fglrx-amdcccle-updates
    $ sudo aticonfig --initial
    $ sudo reboot
After both of those fix-attempts, X Server still crashes.
Please help LM Forums, you're my only hope.

These aren't uploaded here because of the picky parameters required by forums.linuxmint.com about sizes of images (they're both too tall).

Thanks All!

How about a clean installation without formatting /home partition?
