Installing over an older distro

Postby rph » Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:34 pm

I want to install to an older box (HP Pavilion P4 1.5) with two hdd's. sda is XP with NTFS, hdb has Win98 SE- fat32 and Mandrake 8.? on ext2 and a fat32 partition for sharing data. It currently has lilo on the MBR of sda and will most likely replace it with GRUB. I will be dumping the Win98 and Mandrake and re-formating that space as ext3. Is there any hidden pitfalls when replacing lilo with grub on the MBR of hda?

rph,

In a word.... No. Install away. No problem. :-)

Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on the menu. Liberty is an armed lamb protesting the electoral outcome. A Republic negates the need for an armed protest.

rph,

Grub is pretty solid. It has some short comings but so does lilo.

After you get used to grub, I think you will like it better than lilo... I did anyway. :-)
