In Mint how do I go about moving the DESKTOP components from my old version of Mint to a new version of Mint ?

Do I move the whole desktop folder in the new version to trash and then copy the old folder from my old version of Mint to the new version OR do I just delete the entries that are in the new desktop version and then copy JUST/ONLY the ENTRIES from the old desktop folder to the new folder ?

Thanks.

Copy a hidden folder .gconf and its contents to the new installation. Before copying backup the original .gconf folder.

Edit: Hidden folder .mateconf have to copy also.

Will doing this place the icons, etc. that are in the old Mint version's desktop folder onto the new Mint version's desktop ?

Thanks.

Am now going to soon be switching from Linux 13 to Linux 17.

Is restoring my desktop icons/shortcuts from the old 13 version to the new 17 version still just a matter of copying the DESKTOP, GCONF, & MATECONF folders from the 13 version to the 17 version ???

Anything else I need to do ?

Thanks.
