Mint on MSI Wind

Postby euter101 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:05 pm

I want to buy the MSI Wind (though not the model that comes pre-installed with Linux Novell) in the near future, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience getting Linux Mint working on the MSI Wind.

Any info would be greatly appreciated..

Hi, i got myself a Medion Akoya E1210, wich is a relabeled MSI Wind, with some minor differences (other wlan card).
I've tried the Mint 5.0r1 live cd, wich wouldn't boot, just like the Ubuntu 8.04 live cd. Both gave me the busybox prompt and where unable to access the cd or usb stick i tried to use as boot medium. I was able to boot and install the Mint CD XFCE edition, however, since i don't like XFCE i went with Ubuntu 8.04.1, wich will boot and install.
As for the hardware, everything worked out of the box, except wlan, wich was easily solved by using the ndiswrapper (wich is standard in Mint).
Even Compiz works good if you don't go overboard with effects.
