Mouse works with 32 bit but not 64 bit linux [SOLVED]

I have a new PC with a 64 bit 6 core AMD processor and 8GB of memory. I have tried Mint, Suse and Fedora latest 64 bit versions, but in all of them after the OS has loaded the pointer is in the centre of the screen and will not move. I have tried several usb input devices (optical mouse, ball mouse and tracker ball) in different ports but none work. However, on a whim I tried the 32 bit versions of these OSes and all work just fine! What is the difference between the mouse drivers in the 64 bit and 32 bit versions? How can I get my pointer devices to work with the 64 bit versions. I have no problem with the keyboard. Is this the right forum for this Question?

I found the answer in the Ubuntu forums: In the Peripherals section of the BIOS set the IOMMU to enabled (the default is auto). Alternatively you can do something in the GRUB boot file to set the IOMMU. You will need to take this route if you are multi booting with an OS that requires the IOMMU to be disabled, but I am multibooting with 64 bit Linux distros, so I can just set it in the BIOS.

That has me stumped. Have you taken a good look through the bios? Not sure what setting could cause that problem. If you have eliminated the mice and the OSes, there is not much else left.

The settings in the BIOS will affect all installations equally, so I cannot see there being a problem there. However I have tried changing all relevant settings in the peripherals part of the BIOS (EHCI Hand-off, Port 60/64 Emulation and XHCI Mode) but none have an impact on this problem. I don't know of any other settings that might have an affect on this issue.

I have now discovered that the problem seems to be with the 64 bit drivers for the chipset on this board, but Gigabyte only supply Windows drivers on their website, so I am reliant on whatever ships with the distro. I can now access the Live DVD by connecting my mouse and keyboard to the USB 3 ports, and I can then install 64 bit Mint. When I boot up I have full control of the mouse and keyboard if they are connected to USB 3, but if I connect them to USB 2 they do not work. If I boot up with the input devices on USB 3 then any other mouse connected on USB 2 will also work. The networks, (wired and WiFi) are very slow to connect (several minutes) and are quick to drop out.

32 bit Mint works fine on this PC (I have it installed alongside the 64 bit version), although it is slightly flaky from time to time. Does anyone know if there are new 64 bit drivers for the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 motherboard (revision 3.0) and where I can get them? Alternatively can I copy the drivers from my 32 bit installation to the 64 bit one? If so, where are they in the fiing system?
