Live CD hangs after splash

Postby joe281180 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:57 pm

I can't boot from the Bianca live CD, I've also had this same problem with the ubuntu 6.10 live CD.

When I try to boot from the live CD, I see the Mint Bianca boot menu and select boot from CD and after booting gets to the point where the progress bar begins to move, a load of text scrolls up the screen (too fast to read) then the system freezes with a load of text on screen; I've tried a few times and the text is not the same each time, but some choice bits that seem to have occured more than once are:
{O} kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interupt
{O} BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffffd320

I'm using a P4 processor 515 , 2.93 GHZ with 1GB DDR ram. This PC boots up fine into windows XP.

Thanks to anyone with any thoughts on this one.

"Troubleshooting the live CD" in the wiki does not cover your problems, I will try to put something useful there for this kind of error.
This mostly has to do with acpi or apic or both. So if you go to the Ubuntu forums and search for this and kernel panic together with Live CD you get some more or less helpful results.
To assist you further I need to know what hardware you have, specifically motherboard, but also the rest.
Just to eliminate a possible cause - can you boot with some other bootable CD?
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
