Hi folks,
Just purchased Fujitsu Siemens B2154 Lifebook from a well known internet auction site. Its low spec Celeron 450 Mhz, 192MB RAM and 30GB HDD.
Apparently its a bit of pig to get Linux on it, and considering the low spec is there any point in trying with Mint or would I be better off trying a lighter disto?.

Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I think the Fluxbox CE would work just fine

Just tried Fluxbox on my PC. Its damn fast, looks a bit crude, but I'm impressed.

Boot the LiveCD of the Mint XFCE CE. Less "crude" than fluxbox, but also zippy and responsive.

Wait for it, a fluxbox fan will flame us for saying fluxbox is "crude".

A grovelling appology to all involved with Fluxbox. What I should have said was , Its not needlessly flashy or over endowed with slick wotzits.

Twice a year, last Monday in may we call it summer and the first Sunday in October, thats known as an Indian summer!.

Have full fat MInt running on it. Its a little slow at loading but otherwise super fantastic.

As an experiment just put Mint 6 on the Lifebook. It works, boot up takes over 4 minutes and openoffice is up and running in 1.38.

What, if anything can be removed from the boot procedure to speed it up. I know its a bit pointless as xfce and fluxbox work fine, however I do like to play.
