I can't boot linux mint!

Postby craigery » Sat Oct 11, 2008 6:51 pm

i installed a second distrobution on my laptop and after i rebooted my computer i couldn't find an option on GRUB for my Linux mint. i thought deleting the partition with the new distro would somehow help, but instead i get a GRUB error 22. I reallly dont know what to do to . the files are still on the LM partition, i just can't access them without a live cd. i really dont want to delete all my files inorder to fix this
I use elyssa and have a few various ubuntu live cds lying around if that helps
i probably should mention i am a complete n00b when it comes to linux

Unfortunately a lot of distros do not care for what's already installed when they install grub.
Easily fixed
Don't you have your Mint live CD any more?
Use an Ubuntu live CD (any live CD with grub) and follow the instructions here
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... _your_grub
This will bring back Mint as it's only the first part of grub that is the same for all installed distros that is repaired and made to point at Mint
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
