How to Downgrade from M14 to 13?

Post by owen_wade »

Hi,

I'm running Mint 14, it's great, but I'm told to switch my old machine (HP Pavillion DV5000 circa 2006) to Mint 13.
How do I "downgrade"?
Do I have to reinstall everything? Do I lose current data such as photos and music?

Thank you.

The answer to all your questions is currently "it depends". On what? On the extra info I hope you can supply to us.
What partitions do you have, are you able to supply a view of them in Gparted or from the terminal?
What are your machine's specs?
Giving the output after you type these 2 lines in the terminal would help (though the first gives 2nd class info compared to Gparted) :

Code: Select all

lsblk
and afterwards

Code: Select all

inxi -Fx

Hello, owen_wade.

The answer to the main question which you ask in your thread title, "How to Downgrade from M14 to 13?", is pretty straight forward:
(1) Backup your data
(2) Install Mint 13 from scratch.
Do I have to reinstall everything?
Yes.
Do I lose current data such as photos and music?
Not if you backup all your data as the first step.

Kind regards,
Karl
