very long bootup, seems to hang and recover...

Postby lcohen999 » Sat Mar 24, 2007 4:46 pm

With my fresh install Bianca install on my Dell M1210 it seems that the install hangs half way through, then finishes and I cannot figure out where.

dmesg seems to give me no errors.
I don't know how to attach the image though, so you can find it on my ubuntuforums post at:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread. ... ost2347752

thanks!

Have you managed to complete the install?
Maybe my old eyes but I can't figure it out from your post.

Could it be slow to get a network connection? Or trying to connect to one that isn't being used? I've had that before, it's trying to hook and get an ip, and it waits for 60 seconds or something, then finally boots up as normal.

This also something i have experienced, and have been looking for an answer to. My guess is that it has to do with my wireless network trying to connect to my access point.

If anyone knows how to change the network boot settings or can point to a guide or something, i will be really grateful as i don't know much about linux. Also is there a log of the boot process somewhere, so i can have a look and maybe make a more qualified guess as to what i causing the delay?

I know by typing ctrl-alt-delete when it hangs, bootup finishes normally, and my wireless still works.

I am not too sure where the trouble lies, maybe 7.04 will just fix it, although, I'd prefer to know sooner, lol :)`

i just tried this guide here:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread. ... ay+at+boot

and it removes the delay, but something must be broken by it, cause my wireless network stopped working. So it's somehow connected to the network configuration, but as i state earlier, i'm new to linux so i still need help.

That was it actually!!!

I am now booting normally and my wireless is A-OK.

All I need now is for connection-manager to support static IPs and its perfect, thank you for the help and the link!
