Cannot Dual Boot Mint with Windows 10

Post by ibizamale »

Hiya All.

I am getting an extremely strange issue.

I am trying to dual boot a machine i have just purchased.

I am installing Windows 10 first, then attempting to install Mint 17.2 after.

My mainboard is a Asus z77 Sabertooth.

I have 2 x AMD HD R7870 Graphics cards with the crossfire SLI connector.
The windows 10 installs and boots up fine.
When i try and go into the Mint Installation from the DVD i get the following desktop

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByVFbn ... sp=sharing

This happens if i boot to the DVD with UEFI. I have read everywhere i need to boot to the DVD with UEFI.

If i boot into the non UEFI DVD and select compatibility mode i can see the desktop it just complains about graphic hardware acceleration

I am going round in circles please help

Regards

Liam

I think you need to shrink your windows 10 partition size, to make room for a new and seperate partition with linux.

If you already have a partiton space for it, go "something else", create the seperate partition, and install to it, hopefully this will make GRUB loader appear.

No idea if this works with windows 10, i haven't played with 10 yet!

I have shrunk my partition correctly i think in windows 10.

However when I boot into the Mint Install DVD I cannot open anything as it all appears really pixelated as per the image above
So cannot click install mint or do anything, I can go into a terminal ctrl+f6 etc.. but i have no idea what to do from there.

Try to boot the Mint Installer in Recovery Mode.
I suspect you have a graphics card driver issue.
If you get Mint installed, go to Driver Manager and select the recommended driver.
Reboot in normal mode.
