Linux Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” Xfce incorrect MD5 hashsum

Post by pcpunk »

I got a bad md5sum and don't know how/where to report it?
This is the official: 76e29aeee2fffe36a9be2e256f444966 That I got here: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=194

And this is what I got after downloading from James Madison U.S. Site, using Firefox and Down Them All: e329dbc31632a8adb8dc8634fd544686

And double checked it with Gtkhash.

Is there a place that we can get Sha-hashes

Reason: Split off from the release announcement thread http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=201955, because problem reports do not belong there, but here e.g.

Hello, pcpunk.

If the ISO image file that you downloaded does not match the reported MD5 checksum here, then this means that your download file is not OK.
First thing to try: redownload.
Either try the same download source again. If the new download ISO image still does not have the same MD5 checksum,
then definitely try a different download source.
Provided this download finally yields the correct MD5 checksum, then one might suspect that the first download source provides a damaged ISO image file and report it to their server admins.

By the way, where exactly did you download which ISO image file? - Just in case anybody would like to try whether they experience the same problem as you. - Is this the exact download address that you used? http://mirror.jmu.edu/pub/linuxmint/ima ... -64bit.iso

The Mint makers do not provide any SHA hashes. Would not make a difference, either. Corrupt download file is corrupt download file.

Cheers,
Karl

This is where I downloaded it as said before: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=194 From the USA "James Madison" Site.

Very weird, when I click on this link you provided - it takes me into one of my personal files, and not my downloads?
http://mirror.jmu.edu/pub/linuxmint/ima ... -64bit.iso

This worries me, why would this happen?

I will run ClamAV anyhow, thank you.

Hello, pcpunk.

I downloaded exactly the same file that you downloaded, i.e. this one: http://mirror.jmu.edu/pub/linuxmint/ima ... -64bit.iso - This is the address of the ISO image file that the James Madison University USA offers for download.
Clicking the link makes Firefox offer to download the linked file and save it on your local disk. This is what you see. Nothing to be worried about.

I verified the MD5 checksum of the file that I downloaded and it matches exactly the published MD5 checksum.
So your downloaded file is not OK, and you will have to re-download it.
Good luck.

Cheers,
Karl

I Re-Downloaded and all matches, thanks! I guess these things happen, but I am at home and using "Down Them All" with a great connection? Some tell me they don't even Check the md5sum, I don't know why as I have had issues / little glitches, many times, and have downloaded many iso's. Okay, won't worry to much about it in the future unless I get bad iso with multiple downloads.

Thanks pcpunk
