Upgrade from Elyssa to Felicia, but how?

Postby Volvo-Berti » Tue Jan 20, 2009 7:27 am

hi folks,

i like to update my system to Felicia using the CD, but there are questions leaving:

below u see my partitions after typing fdisk -l....not translated (i'm a native German speaker)

as i understand Linux installation during manually installation i can choose the formate option for every partition. So i guess its enough if i formate the basic Linux partitions, but not /home.

Am i right with that? or is it necessary to formate all partitions including /home or can i ignore it for formation?

Platte /dev/sda: 80.0 GByte, 80026361856 Byte
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spuren, 9729 Zylinder
Einheiten = Zylinder von 16065 × 512 = 8225280 Bytes
Disk identifier: 0x803f82ef

Gerät boot. Anfang Ende Blöcke Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5351 42981876 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 5354 5492 1116517+ 5 Erweiterte
/dev/sda3 5493 6282 6345675 83 Linux
/dev/sda4 6283 9729 27688027+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda5 5354 5492 1116486 82 Linux Swap / Solaris

thx very much
greets, Berti

PS apologize for my English

Yes, you can choose to select your /home partition as new /home partition without formating, just don't check the box to format it.

i've done it four hours ago!! installing Felicia was no problem, but configuring my network was a little bit difficult, because my pc has an onboard adapter and an additionl wired adapter. picking the right one was the prob

and after updating the system and installing 2 or 3 missing programs everything is running fine :D
