Mint 18 XFCE and Broadcom WiFi

Post by kb5050 » Mon Aug 15, 2016 2:57 am

I have noticed, on my Dell Laptop I installed Linux Mint 18.2 XFCE edition. One noted thing, is WiFi Broadcom is my wireless card.

I installed using a USB Flash Drive, instead of a DVD.

When you boot the live flash drive, it sees the Broadcom WiFi and allows you to connect to your router. All good, installation was a breeze and all seemed fine it did all its updates etc.

So when I go to restart after, I removed the USB drive, it booted ok but no WiFi.

So I restarted and then after desktop loaded I put back in the USB flash drive, and went to Drivers in the settings panel, and surely enough there was the Broadcom listed. I installed it from the media option, the top choice then connected it. Removed the flash drive, rebooted and all is well.

But it is noted it needs to see the installation media in order to pickup and install the driver to the hard drive.

This might aggravate and confuse those who encounter this issue. Really that was about the only odd duck.
