Mint 18 Cinnamon slow boot

Post by ux_user » Tue Aug 23, 2016 2:06 am

Hi everyone,

I've been looking around for a while, but I can't seem to find a solution.
Can you help me out?

I recently installed Mint next to my windows 8. Everything is really fast when mint is started, but the boot time
takes quit a while (even with RAM=4GB). The details are below.

I read somewhere about the swap UUID issue, but it doesn't seem to effect my system.

blkid:

Code: Select all

/dev/sda1: LABEL="SYSTEM" UUID="0A60-E07F" TYPE="vfat" PARTLABEL="EFI system partition" PARTUUID="70ad5bb9-0d69-4852-85d1-4a863d0c0643"

Your "systemd-analyze blame" values all seem really slow - not just one of them. Dunno what that means though!

I put my values in [] after:

Code: Select all

9.478s ModemManager.service [1.230s]
9.459s accounts-daemon.service [1.256s]
9.260s virtualbox-guest-utils.service [0.251s ]
9.185s grub-common.service [0.745s]
9.123s console-setup.service [0.560s]
(My computer isn't fancy by a long shot).
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappines wat results it give ??
It should give "No such file or directory"

Code: Select all

cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

Yeah I typed it correctly
It says: 60

Is there anything else I can check?

Yeah I typed it correctly
pratik-kumar didn't. Other people might not notice.

Try

Code: Select all

dmesg
scroll thru and see if you can see any errors.

Most slow boots show some delay (the time is in the left column) at a certain place (like it waits 1.5 minutes if a partition won't mount), but you seem to have unusual delays everywhere. My wild guess is something with the partitions - error checking...?

Re: Mint 18 Cinnamon slow boot

Post by deepakdeshp » Tue Aug 23, 2016 1:37 pm

Please run following

Code: Select all

inxi - Fxz
free
badblocks -o bad.txt /dev/sda1
commands to know the configuration and check for disk bad blocks. Where sda1 is your partition you are checking, bad.txt file should give the list of baf blocks, if any.
badblocks will further slow down your system.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
I am using Mint 19 Cinnamon 64 bit with AMD A8/7410 processor . Memory 8GB

Have you tried to click SWAPOFF on the swap partition in gparted?
That did it for me.
