Install in windows unetbootin

I have used vmware player in windows to have access to the linux console, ssh and so forth in the past, rather than installing Putty, Poderosa or something similar.

The latest Mint comes with unetbootin like the one labelled Wubi used by ubuntu.

I had hoped to install on an external USB drive not a key, to have access to Mint without having to boot VMWare bloatware and stealing all my ram. Ubuntu works but the Mint version seems to begin install, then tries to download something from mint and gives up after 9 attempts.

Can I use UNetbootin to do this directly or is the Mint one configured differently? Is there a bug fix or other trick to get Mint inside windows?

Alternatively, is there a vmx for Mint 6 genric I can use for VMWare?

Well it is not Unetbootin we use but a (heavily tweaked) Wubi
It does not work with the RCs (that well at least)
If not an RC I suggest you check the md5sum of the ISO and burn again at the slowest speed possible
