X370 Gigabyte K7 and Ryzen 1700 "unexpected irq trap at vector 07"

Post by MurphCID » Fri Jun 23, 2017 6:36 pm

I just got my new Ryzen 1700 8/16 system built on a Gigabyte X370 Gaming K-7. I am having heck with Winders on stability with at least one BSOD a day. I think I have tracked it down to drivers, but since no BSOD is the same, it is making it really difficult. I have moved two hard drives (WD Green 1 tb) over from my old system, and so have a 512gb NVME boot drive, 1 Western Digital Black 2 tb, and the two 1 TB Green drives. Graphics are from an ASUS GTX 1060 6 gb card. I built this system with the solid intent of dual booting Linux and Winders. I have moved the 1tb Seagate 7200 rpm drive over from the old system, but it died, and Mint (GRUB) would not install on the system. So my question(s) is:

a) Anyone have any issues loading and running in a stable manner Mint 18.1 with the current issue kernel?
b) Anyone have any issues loading Mint 18.1 at all?
c) Stability issues (if any) with the X370 and Ryzen 1700?
d) Suggestions, if any, on getting Mint up and running before I attempt it again?

I plan on installing Mint on one of the WD Green drives, or I can wait a couple more paydays, and get a Crucial MX300 1TB SSD to install in the system for Mint. I might go that direction for speed and storage come to think of it.

Thanks. Still getting BSOD's, but I have tracked them down to (I think) video card issues. I am going to wait for $$$ for a good SSD before installing Mint.

Well after several months of trying to discover the issue, I finally discovered that I had a bad motherboard. The Gigabyte X370 Gaming K7 was bad. I replaced it with an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero board, and man, this system just flies!!! The only issue I have is lack of fan headers. Maybe now I can install Linux Mint 18.2 and have my eight core LInux system. Plus Gigabyte has issues with the F5 Bios killing systems by over-volting. BAD, BAD, BAD.

Thought so. By now, most makers have resolved their bios issues and kernel 4.11 pretty much solves all the audio issues.
