[SOLVED] Install broadcom drivers from live USB

Hi all,
My 18.2 KDE live USB stick works great. After I boot into the live session I can start Driver Manager and easily install the Broadcom driver to get Wifi working.

When I install to the hard drive and reboot, I don't have Wifi (as expected). I open Driver Manager and choose the broadcom driver, but it fails to install it from the USB stick. I got an error about not being able to find the Release file on deb cdrom:... I got a similar message when doing apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source from the CLI. I think this is because KDE mounts the USB stick on /media/user/VOLUMENAME

I figured I would outsmart it and I mounted the USB stick on /media/cdrom. This seemed to work and I was able to add the "cd" to apt with apt-cdrom. Now when I try to install bcmwl-kernel-source from the command line, it tried to upgrade lib6c (and a few other packages) that aren't on the live stick.

So I'm stuck. This macbook doesn't have a hard ethernet port either.

I'm willing to admit that I may have gone down the wrong rabbit hole, but I feel like I *should* have everything I need on the USB stick since it was SO easy to get the Live session on Wifi.

Help?

Thanks!

Browse through the USB /pool directory and find the dkms deb file and the bcmwl deb file and copy them to the Desktop, then double click the dkms and install, when it is finished see if double clicking on the bcmwl will get it installed

Awesome!

That wasn't quite the answer, but it was close enough for me to figure it out. Here's the solution for anyone who happens to have the same problem.

Hi guys,

Just to add as a solution on the same above mentioned problem, but on my Acer.

I went to /pool/main/b/bcmwl and double clicked to install bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu1~1.1_amd64.deb

After installation finished, my wifi got connected straight away even without asking for password of wifi. I assume it was remembered when I ran Mint as live version.

Many thanks,
