Can I update 6 x64 to 7 x64 when it's ready?

Postby juzza » Tue May 05, 2009 9:17 pm

Hi everyone,

Downloading Mint 6 x64 (because I have x64 PC and there's no RC of x64, only x86). Wondering if I install and use 6, will I be able to update to 7 when it's released and if so will this be an easy process or something major requiring a format-reinstall?

Thanks

I don't know if Clem finds the time to make an upgrade tool for the 64 bit version, but it is so similar to main that it may nor be too much work

It's understandable if he doesn't have the time; if I just installed every update as it came out wouldn't the installation end up being the same as a 7 install (kernal, apps, etc.) or would there be significant changes in a main release that can't be gained through updating alone?

Many thanks for your response

Updates are one thing - upgrading to a new version is another much more complex matter
