Hi
I have two hard drives hooked up to my PC- I am using one for Windows 10 and the other for Linux. I have been playing around with Ubuntu Linux for a while, but couldn't get on with Unity. So I decided to wipe the drive with 3rd party software (which I did) and start afresh. Probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, in hindsight, but what is done is done.
I want to install Mint, but I can't get the installer to recognise the wiped drive. It only recognises the Windows hard drive, and asks me whether I want to partition the drive (which I don't).
I have being trying to take some screenshots of the process to demonstrate the process, but the screenshots get deleted after I finish the Live session.
I should mention that I was able to install Ubuntu fine and other distros fine before I wiped the drive. I used KillSuiteFree if that is important.
Any ideas?

Hello weez1990 and Welcome to Linux Mint forums,
does the installer start? If so you can make changes in the partitioning page. I think what's happened may be that you wiped the drive but it is now not partitioned and thus the partitioner does not see it because of that. when the install gets to the partitioning page select other and manually create new partitions on the drive and then install to them. good luck.

Re: Having trouble with installing to hard drive
Do the inxi thing and also install gparted in the Live environment.weez1990 wrote:Any ideas?

sudo apt-get install gparted

gksudo gparted
You should be able to make partitions for the "something else" installation or make some so the installer sees them.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Do you mean I need to input this into the terminal?austin.texas wrote:From the live session, post the result ofCode: Select all

Oh, and in case it wasn't clear, I don't want to partition- I want Mint to be the only installation on the wiped drive. Windows is on another drive and I want to keep the two separate.

Re: Having trouble with installing to hard drive
gparted is normally installed by default in the live USB, so you wont need the apt-get command.
The wiped hard drive seems to be recognised, it's /dev/sda, while /dev/sdb is your windows drive.
Open Menu > Administration > gparted then select sda in the right drop down menu (anyway gparted should show sda by default). Check it's indeed your wiped drive, i.e. does not contain windows partitions, just unallocated space. Then Device > create partition table, choose gpt and apply.
Now the installer should recognise your disk.
