ASUS X205T netbook -- cannot boot

Postby weyland » Sat Nov 18, 2017 6:28 am

All I see when I power on is the BIOS/UEFI Main screen, whether or not I have a bootable USB stick in place.

I've learned elsewhere that this is because this 64-bit machine needs a 32-bit efi file called bootia32.efi. The iso on the stick has only 64-bit .efi files.

OK -- so I have the 32-bit file, and I'm trying to copy it to the stick on a Mint 18.2 Mate tower. But according to Caja the stick has a read-only file system. I've tried changing the owner of the stick to my id and changing all permissions to rw. The terminal says "chmod: changing permissions of '/media/weyland/Linux Mint 18.2 MATE 64-bit/EFI/BOOT': Read-only file system", and Caja agrees.

What's going on, and how can I fix it?

Try this fix for the USB read-only problem ... https://www.partition-tool.com/resource ... ormat.html . Best to just reformat the USB Flash-drive.

32 bit efi is a princess.

Here is what I have done previously. Download the isorespin.sh script from this site:

http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/2017/ ... ation.html

It will modify your iso to be able to boot on 32 bit EFI systems.
