<SOLVED> Booting Problems With Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64bit

Post by Sh0ckStrik3 »

Hello,

I'm trying to install Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64bit for the first time on my PC (which has Windows installed as the only OS in the HDD).

I checked my mobo's UEFI (which is set to run Legacy+UEFI) to see if it has the "Secure Boot" option enabled and nope, seems like it came disable by factory. Also, i tried to boot from "normal" to the "compatibilty" mode using the live USB, but both ways always fails and then the system show me this image (Sorry for the dead pixels, got no money to buy another monitor at the moment):

https://imgur.com/a/WWglp

Specs:
Processor: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor
Mobo: MSI 970 Gaming
HDD: 149GB MAXTOR STM3160215AS (SATA)
Graphic Card: 2048MB ATI Radeon RX 460 Graphics (MSI)
Program used to make the USB flash drive booteable: RUFUS 2.18 (I tried with unetbootin as well but it didn't work)

This is the first ever linux distro that i have been trying to install in my PC so i don't know what i'm doing wrong. Hope you guys could help me.

Hello Sh0ckStrik3 Image

Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :)

Please refer to this topic that explains how to edit the boot parameters.

What you want to add is iommu=soft

If that works it will also have to added to your grub defaults.

Someone here can provide instructions on how to do that.

Good luck

Man, i've been trying to access the GRUB menu through the bootable USB flash but i can't. I tried to hold down the left "Shift" hey during boot but it doesn't work. Is there any other way that may work for me?

Did you get it installed as per those instructions and now you're trying to edit the grub menu of the installed system :?:

I had to add the parameter pcie_aspm=off in order to get mine booted.

Did you try the space bar at the 10 second screen :?:

I don't know what else I can do or tell you at this point :?

Did you wrote that command at the end of the line that start with the word "linux"?

Pull the graphics card, boot to the inbuilt, see if that will work.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

Yes, just leave a space after the last entry and your iommu=soft entry

xhci makes me think of AHCI in BIOS. You trying to boot with that set in RAID mode? X probably standing for the "X" server.

Hello,

I just needed to type the command iommu=soft behind the ¨--¨ in the booting parameters in Linux MInt, and all is working fine for now. Thanks for the help.
