I dual boot Win10 and linux mint 18.2 and now both do not work I can NOT use the computer now
##Sorry for my English. This is not my native language
My pc:
Motherboard: H81M-A ASUS
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Gpu: SAPPHIRE Radeon™ RX 460 2G D5 OC
I have two hard disks. In one I installed Windows 10. The other is empty. So I decided to do dual boot and install linux mint 18.2 on it from USB 16gb flash drive. Now I'm in big trouble.
Windows 10 won't booting after i linux mint install. linux mint booting but show black screen (I used unetbootin to install the linux mint on the usb flush drive apparently this is not good software). linux mint works perfectly that i booting from the usb flush drive. But when I Install linux mint on the hard disk and restart the computer after the install Finish that not work that booting but show black screen.
What am I supposed to do now? There is no operating system that I have access to for fix this problem. The only thing I have now is to run linux mint from the USB flash drive and try to fix this big problem.
I thought maybe create a persistent volume On the free space in the USB flash drive and download Windows 10 and install the Windows 10 on another USB flash drive (This time I'll do it right) After I do that I will have Windows 10 USB bootable and than I try to install it on one of the 2 hard disk I have.
The problem is that I do not know if it is possible to create persistent volume On the free space in linux mint live USB flash drive.
Do you have any solution to my problem?
##note: I do not have any important information on both hard disks so I have no problem that all the information on both discs will be deleted I just want the computer back.
i try also this viewtopic.php?f=46&t=122257
i did that and i Press CTRL + X and that sand me to a black screen that stuck with a message:
booting a command list
loading Linux 4.8.9-53-generic ...
loading initial ramdisk ...

@ johncopper, .......
For some guidance, please refer to ... https://askubuntu.com/questions/913716/ ... figuration
Run the Live LM USB/DVD and try to use the rEFInd program to recover your UEFI bootloaders.
Last resort is to reinstall the OS.

Try this, power on the computer and press F8 to access the boot menu. Or enter bios setup and see boot section, bios might offer to boot Windows boot loader directly.
Besides these suggestions can you provide the following command results, open a terminal in your live session :

Try reseating the RAM. Very common problem for me.
Re: I dual boot Win10 and linux mint 18.2 and now both do not work I can NOT use the computer now
The two suggestions you gave me do not work. I tried to change everything possible in BIOS and nothing seemed to make Windows or linux mint boot. linux mint live usb do work but The problem is that every time I do restart all the information is erased. I want the information preserved on the usb flash drive after the restart like Tails os (https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/ ... ex.en.html) and used the linux mint live usb to download win10 and make another Windows 10 USB bootable and than i format the hard disk and problem solvedLaurent85 wrote:Try this, power on the computer and press F8 to access the boot menu. Re: I dual boot Win10 and linux mint 18.2 and now both do not work I can NOT use the computer now
For comparison, here's what I get running those commands from a live session. Not a dual boot machine, but it does use EFI.
Not an expert, but yours doesn't look right. One possibility . Did you change boot options to use Legacy Boot or CRM? I ask because I see that recommended a lot on websites. Indeed, it makes installing Linux easier. It also makes Windows unbootable if it was installed for UEFI.
If that's not the issue, what I'd try next is Window's system repair disc. Perhaps you already have one. If not, a friend with a similar computer should be able to create one for you. (It's an option under Control Panel - Backup.) It's a self-booting disc, like the Mint live session. From the menu, select Troubleshoot, then Advanced Options and Startup Repair. That's supposed to solve your problem. If it doesn't, another Advanced Option is Command Prompt, from which you can deploy more sophisticated tools. Fortunately, I've never had to learn those, but there are lots of articles on the web.
Also, where did you read one can install Windows to a USB? I don't think that is possible, but always interested to learn new things.

Re: I dual boot Win10 and linux mint 18.2 and now both do not work I can NOT use the computer now
Looks like Linux Mint was not installed in the same mode Windows was installed. LM was installed in EFI mode and W10 is not listed in the computer EFI boot loaders.
A boot info from a live session would help further:
Provide the link pointing to the boot info summary.
