I found this thread with a Google search; I have the same problem, but don't understand the solution. I successfully overwrote Windows 10 on a laptop, but I'd like to dual-boot on my desktop. (I'm new to Mint.)

Not too amazing that you did not understand the solution in that old thread: no solution had been given and confirmed.
So instead of spending time on a 2 year old unsolved thread, please, explain
+ what precisely you are trying to achieve
+ which problems precisely you encounter
Give as many relevant details as possible.
Doing so will increase your chances of getting helpful feedback.
