The Future of GNU/Linux Remastering Tools

Post by RobertX »

I don't know if threads like this are allowed in the future, but I'm not discussing piracy here, just a free way to install and a bunch of tools that I prefer along with the OS that I prefer, which is Linux Mint, and I am not distributing the customised OS either.

Now, my difficulty is to install a remastered version of Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon or MATE with Systemback. It didn't work, and when an installed version of Systemback runs for the first time, it would just as far as the wallpaper and a moving mouse cursor and stop dead there.

I hope there is a better alternative than Timeshift, but if there isn't, lay it on me.

Along with my sob story, I still would like to add that I admire Clem and the designers/programmers of Linux Mint and the fact that the OS is so superior, much more superior to Ubuntu, and that it's free (and open source) as well, but I do have some problems that I prefer to clear out.

Thanks for the OS, but please address me problem.

This is Respin, a very recent attempt at making a remaster tool for Debian and Linux Mint, like 22 days ago. The download is a DEB file in a GITHub repository. Someone please try this. I will. :)

Here's where I got the link.

Thanks for reading. Let's hope that with a little co-operation and collaboration, we might get far and help each other.

Linux Live Kit is a set of shell scripts which allows you to create your own Live Linux from an already installed Linux distribution. The Live system you create will be bootable from CD-ROM or a disk device, for example USB Flash Drive, USB Pen Drive, Camera connected to USB port, and so on. People use Linux Live Kit to boot Linux from iPod as well.

I'll look into that.

One question: does Linux Live Kit only make LiveCDs, or can I use an installer to install my custom OS onto the hard disk?

I don't want to have to delete my hard-kept Linux Mint installation just to be wiped out by something I don't have the option to use.

My bad , it's just for creating a live disk and the developer has no intention of adding a installer function.

So it's of no use to you , sorry about that.

I'm still looking for this myself. I had also previously been using Systemback with great success. Tried a couple of things including Pinguy Builder but no luck.

Thanks for the message reply, fullmoonguru.

I'm going to do some more research on the Internet and see if the future is still existent for remaster tools.
