HI , am trying to boot a laptop hp pavilion g7 series ( with radeon video card) with a linuxmint-18.1-cinnamon-64bit usb stick. This worked fine with my newer hp machine( i aasume this one with intal video card ) , but with this one , it fails within the boot process , During the read-process , is does shows an error "[drm:r600_ring_test [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: ring 0 test failed (scratch(0x8504)=0xCAFEDEAD)"
and after showing the inital Linuxmint screen , it stops further initializing and stops working completely. no reaction on any key.
I read somewhere on the net that linuxmint had problems with radeon , no driver ( ??) , but i found that hard to believe since many laptops are using this type of cards ...
all the advise i have read mentions some altering , but if cannot get the system up and running , then there is little i can do ...
Anyone any idea how to fix this ?
Thx
In the mean time i was able to boot up using advanced options , and boot in recovery mode .
from a previous posts in this forum ( viewtopic.php?t=248120 ) , i executed the commands:
sudo apt-get purge fglrx*
sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo aptitude install fglrx fglrx-pxpress
however , after rebooting the system , it still did not boot up in a normal way , and could only work again thru the advanced options and recovery mode route...
not sure what the right approach here is ..
anyone could push me further along ?
thx
