Upgrade from Cinnamon 18.2 to 18.3 unable to boot Windows 10

Post by thefreediver »

Hi everyone and thank you for being here for us newbies :? I'e just upgraded on a Lenovo x230 my Mint 18.2 to 18.3 and when i tried booting to Windows 10 i realised that I am returned to the boot menu. I can boot to Windows if i use Ubcd for example to look for windows boot but through the grub menu it is not possible anymore. Any advice how to solve this is very welcomed.
Thanks

Hello thefreediver,
you can try the following command from the 18.3 install

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
see if that works.
good luck.

Thanks kc1di just did and it showed me it can see the windows loader but when things are the same. I just remembered i had the same thing happening when i updated from 18.1 to 18.2 but than i was wise enough to make a backup using paragon. The restore of the windows partition fixed it then.

if you install both windows and Mint in UEFI mode the you can use REfind found here as the boot manager and it will work quite well.

So i haven't managed to restore the boot menu. I backed up with time shift linux mint 18.2 but on restoring 18.2 i'm still unable to boot Windows 10 without the help of a ubcd boot usb that looks for the windows os on the hard drive.

I installed Mint Xfce 18.3 but even though the installer recognized the windows im' still unable to boot Windows 10. Any help would be very welcomed. Thank you
