E: The package net.downloadhelper.coapp needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

How would I reinstall or update or whatever needs to be done to get net.downloadhelper.coapp back working on this system. I still cannot get my software Manager to open, I did do restart after doing the above.

Palladini, you could try re-downloading the app in question, reinstall it, then see if the commands above repair the status of the packages.
But if after a manual re-installation of it & running the above problems still persist afterwards...there's no question then that a clean slate would certainly be the best bet.

which is most strange, as following those steps will remove any extra PPAs
& set the repositories back to the the default AKA factory settings.

so you shouldn't need to do a "With the help of ppa-purge" or any such action . .
- as that method should be the equivalent of a 'clean slate'.

THX-1138 If I could get my Software manager to show up, I click on it and not nothing shows up, and I have no idea how to reinstall that app in the Terminal

...does typing mintinstall on a terminal return any warnings? Does Software Manager open with it?
You could also try re-installing Software Manager: sudo apt-get install mintinstall...

Edit: you mean how to install the DownloadHelper Companion app? Download the .deb from the link above, and right-click, open in Gdebi, install...

I have decided that a complete delete and reinstall of Linux Mint 18.3 was needed. It was just too screwed up to continue using. I do not know if I got some kind of Virus or whatever, but this morning I could not get the software Manager to open and that same message showed up about some download helper missing, so I went to the Windows side, open Disk Management and formatted then renamed the are Linux sat in. I just downloaded the Linux Mint 18.3 cinnamon 32 Bit and am burning it to USB Thumb drive as I type this.

It is an hour later now, and I have reinstalled, updating works fine, all is well, thanks for all the Help I received here

Maybe it was a typo 'cause the "funniest" and most desperate code is dist-upgrade so sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (would be a waste of time in any case).

Jopeta, I downloaded the ISo needed for this computer and reinstalled the Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Cinnamon. That fixed everything.

I know, congrats. I only want to tell Pjotr that (maybe) there was a typo in codes. Have fun with your band new Intallation.
