[SOLVED] Problem when cloning from a 500gb HDD to a 250gb SDD

Post by zecoves » Tue Mar 06, 2018 9:30 am

Hello,

I'm writing this topic because some days ago i change from a HDD of 500gb to a SDD 250gb in my laptop. The problem was the SSD has a smaller capacity than the HDD and i want to clone the data from one disk to the other.

The HDD had just near 100gb of data.

I have been reading that is not that straightforward to pass from a bigger HDD/SDD to a smaller HDD/SDD , so i followed the steps from this link (the one i used starts with - Backup! Backup!! Backup!!!):

https://askubuntu.com/questions/842029/ ... -on-laptop

But i feel that i haven't done this well and my pc takes near 90seconds to make the boot, and when i had the hdd it take at a maximum of 20 seconds. And i don't know if i made the swap partition well.

The inxi -Fnx from my terminal is this:

Code: Select all

probably the swap file is your problem.
if you did not clone the swap file and created a new one ... the new one will have a different UUID
fstab has an entry for the UUID, that needs to match, otherwise the system will hunt for it for 1 minute and 30 seconds! before giving up.

the fix is to use "sudo blkid" to list the drive data, and see the UUID
then edit "/etc/fstab" to match Exactly

best of luck!
