Hi. I am a newbie. I run Mint / cinnemon 18.2 64 bit on HP stream.
I wish to update OS to 19 cinnemon. I am told it is easy. I have installed and run Timeshift.
The next instructions call for running 'system upgrade utility' and then to click on index/upgrade.

I cannot find the system upgrade utility. I can find 'Package updater', but it repors that I am up to date
and then closes. In any event there is no edit or upgrade button.

So my question is Where is the upgrade button? I know I am asking something stupid. Please indulge me.

Linux Mint 19 hasn't been released yet.

It's talking about the Update Manager, not the Package updater. I'm not sure what a Package updater is. The Update Manager has an 'Edit' menu in the navigation bar at the top, that's the one that's meant.

You're a bit early for Mint 19, but you can upgrade to Mint 18.3.

Usually Linux Mint will make a blog post to announce New Versions... and a bit later give upgrade instructions.
I believe there is now a 18.3 version in use if you want to try that.

Yup, there is. It's pretty good.

My appologies. I was carried away with a january newa item saying it was imminent.
Same scenario if I want to upgrade to 18.3. There is no 'button'

What all does it list under 'Edit' in the Update Manager?

There was never a button for upgrading, just the edit menu entry. (And for upgrading to Mint 19 - not before it is released - you will not be able to do this via any simple graphical upgade command. At least for upgrading from LM 17.x to 18 this has never existed.)

Thank you gentlemen. I finaly loaded the KDE version, and the IDE to go with it. I then found the edit button and the upgrade.
Success. Now running 18.3 Thank you

There was an upgrade path from 17.3 to 18 - albeit requiring a little bit of command line - https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2316. I used it for one of my machines that is still going strong and is now on 18.3 with no fresh install since 2014 - I think it started on 17.0 IIRC. Caveat - it's only used as a media server not as a day to day general use machine.
