Low drive space complaints- part 3

Post by WHVW »

Hi:

I have been looking...and looking but it seems to me that probably the best solution to this problem

viewtopic.php?f=46&t=265434

would be to transfer the whole system as is to a larger drive. I think this can be done... I found a 160GB drive that would be perfect for the job. So..

1. Would you tell me if indeed that is the best approach; i.e. the most efficient, stable, easy and effective solution.
2. If so, please give me the step by step, as I have never attempted this before.

Thanks.

the first thing would be:
- just how much customization & files - do you have on the system, now?.

1/ if there is not much, changed from when you first installed LinuxMint,,
then a Clean Installation onto that 160Gb drive, would be the way to go.

and if you do have lots of stuff, on the old system, now, then an clone of it,
would enable you to copy it onto that new 160Gb drive.

let us know, what you have, before attempting Step Two.

Pierre:

Yes, there is a lot of stuff on that drive, including a lot of Play On Linux (Wine) stuff from old and digitally fragile install disks. Because of that, I think the clone approach would be best.

Thanks.
