No Network Connections • 18.3 "Sylvia"

Post by saazhopper »

I'm installing 18.3 "Sylvia" on a Dell Optiplex 780, 4.10.0 - 38 - generic x86_64

The installation went fine; however, my network connections are greyed out. I've captured the error messages and have the – lspci -vv

The forum attachment size restriction is such that the information is not useful if presented as an attachment, so I've posted the errors.jpg and lspci -vv file to my web space

http://imageview360.com/LinuxMint_Installation

Being new to Linux Mint I do not know how to interpret the information, nor how to resolve the problems with the network drivers

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I really like Mint from what I've seen so far, but obviously I've got to get the network connections working before I can use it.

Thanks,

Richard

Hello saazhopper and Welcome to Linux Mint Forums,
Can you give us a picture of what the following terminal command outputs.

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
This gives a snapshot of your system and will help those trying to help you.
Thanks.

This Ask Ubuntu post may be of Help. if you can get a temporary Ethernet connection that would be great. If not you'll have to down load the driver and associated file on another computer and put it on disk or usb stick and install it manually.
(Note: for future reference when you post terminal out put please enclose them in code tags (</>). It makes it easier to read.)

If you need further help just ask. Some one may have an easier way also.

"This Ask Ubuntu post may be of Help."
Am I missing something, or was there a link that you intended to include?

I would be happy to include the above to make output easier to read
(beginner) where do I place?

Thanks

Yes, I'm sorry forgot to post the link :(

The code tags can be clicked on from the tool menu at the top of the post area. you can highlight what you want included then click the code tags or click the code tags and past what you want between them. good luck.

Thanks for posting the link. I will check it out.

I did get lucky and tried a Bear Extender Long Range Wi-Fi 1200 that I had around and it works!

I'm now able to connect to my Wi-Fi network and the internet; although good, I still want to sort out the problems with the built in.

Here is what I've tried so far with the Wi-Fi - did not work. The install seemed to go well...but

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential git
git clone https://github.com/art567/mt7601usta.git
cd mt7601usta/src
make
sudo make install
sudo cp RT2870STA.dat /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/
sudo modprobe mt7601Usta

One improvement after running the above I'm no longer getting error messages on boots or shutdowns -- going to check this again now to be certain.

If I understand correctly what I've done so far only effects the Wi-Fi drivers, so I will still need to install drivers for ethernet

You are correct on the drivers you've installed so far. I did not see you ethernet card listed in the out put you posted so can't help you with that yet.
Good luck. That first dongle is know to be difficult to get going so you may be better off sticking with the one that works.
