System does not see the file memtest86+.bin as valid one

Post by Deig »

When my system Linux Mint 17.2 was installed, no memtest86+ entry was in
the Grub menu.
I added it using Grub Customizer. But when I select in Grub menu this entry
the black screen appeared and computer gets stuck.
It seems that system does not see the file memtest86+.bin as valid bin file,
because when I perform command update-grub no somethings like
Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin appears.

Please any suggestions

you shouldn't need to be using Grub Customizer. . .
a simple sudo update-grub in Terminal should retrieve that Line Entry in the Grub Boot Menu.

The update-grub is the first command I have ran after the Mint was installed.
Here's what I see:

Code: Select all

Generating grub configuration file ...
Warning: Settings GRUB TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-38-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-38-generic
 No volume groups found

I have installed the same MINT on other PC and for it the memtest86+ is OK.
When I run the command update-grub the following appears:

Code: Select all

Warning: Settings GRUB TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-38-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-38-generic
Found memtest86+ image" /boot/memtest86++.elf
Found memtest86+ image" /boot/memtest86++.bin
 No volume groups found
Done
Significant difference between the two computers is EFI vs BIOS.
