You can use software manager to install gtkhash and have a gui program as well as using the command line as instructed on the linux mint site. Both are quite easy.
what a Godsend that utility is.

Thank you

"...putting another version of Linux onto a flash drive..." Well alright, but the Live Session Mint is not 100% competent booting from a USB3 device through a USB3 port. The benefit of using a USB3 device is that they tend to use modern, faster storage. A USB3 flash store (~30MB/s) can work flat-out through a USB2 connection (~60MB/s).
Data stored in an encrypted volume will only be accessible with the original password. Without this key, all the data will remain scrambled beyond hope of recovery.

@Mute Ant Why do you say this? I would say I have made Mint Live iso sticks on USB 3.0 thumb drives dozens of times and booted them on USB 3.0 ports in several computers with no apparent issues and many installs. I have done this with 17.0/.1/.2/.3 and 18.0/.1/.2/.3 as well as many other distros such as Peppermint, Chakra, Solus, MX-17, Fedora, Korora etc.

Just curious...

When i looked last year isolinux and GRUB lacked USB3 driver code. They will try BIOS calls to see what's connected, but some people have machines with USB3 hardware but no USB3 support in the BIOS. YMMV.
