Installation problems on Toshiba Sat Pro L40 with Ubuntu / Mint

Post by exoplanet »

Hello experts!
I am having issues installing any linux onto an old Tosh Sat Pro L40.
After installation I reboot and can hear the tomtom drum when the desktop should appear but the only screen shown is what I have attached in the image, it's the screen you can usually see scrolling up when the laptop is booting but i hangs on various lines - usually a different line each time i try to reboot?
Any ideas?
I have tried various flavours of linux from Mint to Ubuntu, peppermint and puppy but none of them will work, so i am wondering if its the laptop.
Thanks
Steve

Can you boot the Live Linux DVD/USB.?

You should try the older LM 17.1 or Ubuntu 14.04 with your old laptop.

Maybe, the hard-drive has failed.
