Special Flash Drive setup for Gparted and OS install [solved]

Post by AZgl1500 » Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:33 pm

I want to create a special Flash Drive stick with a menu that will allow me to:

1) boot straight up into Gparted only, to allow me to create a special format of the HDD so that "Something Else" will work properly.

2) Boot the OS Live session and then use "Something Else" to select the special partition for "/home"

This has come about because I was trying to set up an old Dell laptop that already had Win7 and Linux Mint on it from a couple of years ago....

When I chose "Something else" and looked at all of the partitions on the HDD, it was a mess.
I could not see a way to force "/home" to a new partition and then let Install wipe out the rest of the HDD for the install.

my searches on this lead me to believe that simpy using Gparted to prepare the HDD in advance would solve this problem.

I don't want to wait 20 minutes for the Live session to come up, just to use Gparted.

I read through this Tutorial and agree that the proper/easiest way to do this, is to let Gparted prepare the HDD in advance. Allows for easier corrections if I make a mistake.

If the above idea is a bit hard to accomplish, I would like to just dedicate a Flash stick to Gparted only.

and here, backs up my idea for wanting to do this:
