Can SWAP be resized if more RAM is added?

Post by SyncroScales »

Hello,

If more RAM is added to a desktop or laptop, can the SWAP area be resized? Is this useful or needed? Using SSD's or HHD's?

Linux Mint Cinnamon 64-bit.

Thanks.

That depends if you will be hibernating or not. If you hibernate then you would need the same amount of swap+some more as the amount of your RAM. At any event, you can resize your swap partition and edit the /etc/fstab to reflect the new UUID for your new swap partition.

resize the Existing swap partition. that way the UUID remains.
with Gparted first select swapoff, then stretch it.
