Touchpad Stops Working Linux Mint 18.3 Mate Spin Live DVD

Post by msjohns1 »

Once the desktop display loads, the touchpad mouse initially works. But after several seconds to a few minutes, it completely stops responding. I can still plug in a USB mouse and that works, but touchpad is dead in the water. No errors or pad-related messages I can see in `dmesg`. It behaves like some intentional disable is triggered and not viewed as an error. Touchpad still reports enabled under Mouse settings.

Check to see what's starting in the Startup Applications.

If you can, post a snapshot of the window.

I use the app called Shutter. I find it very easy and useful.

I guessed you had an Acer laptop. Enter your bios and look for a setting for the touchpad. I believe that you will find that there is one, and that the default setting is "Advanced". Change it to "Basic" and save and exit. The exact thing happened to me (xfce Mint) and prevented a successful install to hard drive as well as stopping all activity during Live sessions. Drove me crazy until I discovered there was a trackpad option in the BIOS. I'd never encountered that before but my Acer A315 has it.
