Linux Mint 18.3 on Intel NUC8i7HVK

Post by kennedybaird »

Tries to start Light DM and keeps failing, then can't get past Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes

I can't get past this screen on installation:

This is booting compatibility mode with nomodeset and noforcevesa params.

Ubuntu manages to get through installation.

Currently downloading 18.2 to try it as maybe that will find the graphics.

Also trying to make custom USB iso with upgraded kernel (4.15) for 18.3

No luck with making a custom iso with upgraded firmware.

It's a bit sad.. I've resorted to ubuntu (shock horror) and I'm missing Cinnamon

Hope someone can find some time to offer thoughts?

I think from what I've read that it's an issue with the Raden RX Vega series not having support until kernel 4.15

Mint 19 Beta Iso with a 4.15 kernel will be available sometime in the relatively near feature. In the meantime Xubuntu 18.04 + Cinnamon installed from the Bionic repos might do the job?

Thanks

On Ubuntu I still can't get it to use the graphics card, it's using the CPU using llvm

What do you get back from inxi -Fxz on Ubuntu? You might have to install inxi - not sure if it's a default application in Ubuntu.
