[SOLVED] Boot and install after system got corrupted, no boot device found

At the beginning at wiped the available disk space with Nautilus wipe.
During this time I was working on several files.
Libre Office told: not enough disk space.
Also the wiping progress stopped.
I canceled wiping but no response.
Turned down the laptop by long pressed power button (which seemed to be a big mistake).

Since then when starting up and trying to log after entering the password some lines in the terminal appear fast and it shows the login screen again as before (password field empty again).

Tried a Linux live usb stick 64 bit according to my system but it doesn't show up in the boot menu. (It works on another laptop.)

Please see the attached screenshot with code which now appears for a second or two on starting.

I restored from a snapshot (made with Timeshift) from an external drive.
But my system says "incorrect password" when trying to log in.

If you had a German keyboard using a German layout at the time you set the password, then I would think it's reasonable to assume using a German keyboard with an English layout now could be the cause of your password issue.

Thank you. Hm, I did not change the language manually.

I can start Linux mint from a Live DVD.
Then I tried to install Linux from this DVD.
But I can not go on from the screen "Installation of Linux Mint is being prepared" (screen shot shows the German text) as the button "continue" is greyed out.

Would could I do?
Could formatting help before trying to install a new Linux mint?
If so, how can I format the hard disk?

Attached also a screen shot about informations displayed during the loading of Linux from the Live DVD ... with PCI bus errors.

Your PCIe Bus Error looks similar to this issue, which was resolved by adding a boot parameter to the kernel.

...not a good idea running disk space wipe while still reading/writing from other apps.

...also not a good idea pressing the power button (always use REISUO instead).

...the PCI warnings can be resolved as JoeFootball suggested.

...on the last photo, you also have a TPM error - disable such in the BIOS.

...what steps had you used to install Mint on this machine first place, can't you remember?

...use Gparted to see what's going on & probably fix things: power button while wiping going on,
no idea what might have happened, quite likely filesystem / partition (tables) got somewhat corrupted...

I am no Linux specialist just a power user and I write now from the windows tablet of my wife.
With my running Linux system I can not login anymore. Also trying to login as a guest does not work but just gets me back to the login screen.
I installed Linux last year or is it two years to the laptop from a stick as far as I can remember or was it from DVD? This was done without any problem as far as I remember. Also I am very happy with Linux Mint and the support I have got here.

Why is my Live-USB-stick not booting? It also does not show up in the boot menu.
Secure Boot: I have Legacy support enabled and secure boot disabled. The screen shot shows more options.
PCI errors on starting from the LiveDVD reduced after using pci=noaer according to your suggestion. I am not sure if there is one left as something just came up for the blink of an eye on starting.
I think The TCM error comes up again but above and this just a split second. I checked in the BIOS about TCM options – screenshot attached – what to choose?
When starting Gparted from the Live-DVD the warning comes: The driver descriptor says the physical block size is 2048 bytes, but Linux says it is 512 bytes. Cancel or Ignore. What to do? After cancelling the hard disk is not shown. I did not try Ignore as I do not know if this would cause any problem.
I tried Integraty check when booting from the Live DVD: No errors found.
I did not try to install Linux again right now as I want to wait for your suggestions before.
Maybe the (now corrupted) system can still be restored and used?

delete .Xauthority and .ICEauthority should now reboot and password ok. but since you tried wiping space and was interrupted or not finish i would think a re-install is in order with complete format
df -h will tell you how much space is used

I have Legacy support enabled and UEFI disabled because otherwise no boot device is recognized. Now the Stick is not detected but the DVD.

Would you explain me why? Will they be created again then automatically?

Can anyone confirm this advice to delete .Xauthority and .ICEauthority?

Hi again!

I changed in the BIOS: TPM hidden. Secure Boot disabled, Legacy enabled.
And in Advanced Boot options – UEFI Boot Order and Legacy Boot Order activated.
Then I installed Linux Mint again. Installation successful. Restarted without DVD. But then:
Boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk – (3F0).

What to do?

For a Legacy BIOS mode install, the "Device for boot loader installation" should be the internal hard-drive, ie /sda.

I am glad for further responses, in the meanwhile I will try to reset the bios to factory, check some settings in uefi and reinstall linux mint one more time.

InChrist, try checking on your BIOS that you are indeed booting from the correct device.

From Debian's wiki, but the procedure should be pretty similar overall...i copy / paste here for the sake of simplicity:

Advanced -> Secure boot configuration -> set 'Legacy Support' to Enable, and 'Secure Boot' to Disable...
Advanced -> Secure boot configuration -> Clear Secure Boot keys (that one is, assuming you don't dual boot with Windows)
Advanced -> System Options -> Virtualization Technology (VTx) (enable that one...)
Advanced -> Built in devices -> Graphics : UMA Graphics

Install. Then make sure that you've set the boot order to point to the correct device, ie. the HDD (instead eg. of the usb stick / dvd media etc...)

Ie. to be on the 'safe side' / less hassle, i'd first go with michael's suggestion as per above for Legacy
(even more since such is the recommendation from Debian people themselves as well).

As detailed in the link provided (again here), it's a boot parameter that's added to your kernel. As detailed in the linked article, this is done via GRUB, where another link with more information on how to do that is provided (again here).

I have set up my system freshly from a Live-USB-Stick.

Settings in the BIOS that worked for our two laptops:
Reset to factory settings, then.
UEFI enabled
Secure boot disabled
TPM (Trusted platform module) hidden

With Legacy instead of UEFI the Stick would not be recognized but only the DVD.
My new system is running smoothly thanks to God.
